Medication Disposal

Program explains the safety issues regarding undisposed or poorly disposed medications, familiarizes participants with the Secure and Responsible Drug Disposal Act of 2010 and provides assistance for HCPs in offering guidance to patients relatives on disposal of unused expired drugs post-mortem drug disposal.

1. Highlight the safety issues regarding undisposed or poorly disposed medications
2. Explain the major provisions of the Secure and Responsible Drug Disposal Act of 2010
3. Describe the DEAFDA recommendations on drug disposal
4. Provide guidance to patients relatives on disposal of unused expired drugs postmortem drug disposal

In support of improving patient care, The UAB Marnix E. Heersink School of Medicine is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

Mitigation of Relevant Financial Relationships
